Big news! CNPC discovered a large oil field with a capacity of 100 million tons

2023-12-11

On 1th of December ,a good news came from CNPC Changqing Oilfield. After two years of hard exploration, the oilfield was discovered in the Hongde area of Huan County, Gansu Province, with a geological reserve of over 100 million tons.

It marks a major breakthrough in oil exploration in the fault and fracture area in the western Ordos Basin.Opened up new areas of oil exploration and development in the western part of the basin in China mainland.

The Ordos Basin is a treasure trove of oil and gas resources in China. After more than 50 years of development and construction, Changqing Oilfield has built a world-class extra-large oil and gas field with an annual output of 65 million tons. Hongde Oilfield is located in the western region of the basin where geological conditions are extremely complex. Due to intertwined geological faults and fractures, more than ten years of exploration and research have still failed to achieve a breakthrough. Since June 2021, Changqing Oilfield has relied on three-dimensional seismic technology to cover large areas to support and guide oil exploration. It has once again deployed the Hongde area to find structural oil reservoirs. In two years, 23 exploration wells have obtained high-yield industrial oil flows, of which 3 the well's daily oil production exceeds 100 tons.

So far, Changqing Oilfield has submitted proven oil reserves of more than 50 million tons and predicted oil reserves of 56.2 million tons in this area. A large oil field exceeding 100 million tons is slowly come out.

Oil exploration in the Hongde area has made rapid breakthroughs, and oil field development has also accelerated. The current daily crude oil production level has reached 504 tons. Oil reserves have been discovered and it has the capacity to build a crude oil production capacity of 500,000 tons per year, which has opened up a new impetus for increasing crude oil reserves and production in the western part of the basin, providing strong support for China's largest oil and gas field to continue to ensure national energy security.
